Lawrence Arts Academy established.
Local children and young adults with an interest in the arts will be pleased to learn that, as of December this year, they will soon have access to an exciting array of arts workshops and courses through the newly established Lawrence Arts Academy.
Committed to unlocking and cherishing the artistic talent of young people, the Lawrence Arts Academy aims to provide quality arts experiences in Lawrence, so that all young people have the chance to explore and develop their artistic talents.
The academy will run classes, workshops and block courses in a diverse range of disciplines such as music, theatre, dance, visual art, fashion, design and creative writing. These courses will be delivered by enthusiastic and knowledgeable tutors, some of whom will even be travelling from as far away as the North Island to share their expertise.
Some courses may focus primarily on providing young people with the opportunity to try something new and experience the arts, others will be designed to extend those who already have some ability or prior knowledge in an arts discipline. Courses will be offered free of charge to participants living in Lawrence and surrounding areas, such as Waitahuna and Beaumont.
The academy’s summer programme will run from December 2009 to February 2010. It will be based in Lawrence and may include field trips. A programme schedule containing course details, times and locations will be released within the next few weeks and published in the Tuapeka Times.
Anna Clayton-Smith, a young local woman with teaching expertise and a passion for the arts, has been employed as Academy Coordinator. She invites anyone with queries about the academy’s proposed programme to telephone her on 485 9946 or by emailing aclaytonsmith@gmail.com. Potential tutors are also invited to contact Anna with course proposals. Their website is: www.laa.ac.nz
